Q: Could you tell us about your feeling working here in Herend?
可以谈谈您在赫伦工作的感受吗？
Hou: During the 35 year that I worked for Herend I always felt it to be an honor and privilege to work for such company. Herend is not just a porcelain maker, it is a part of Hungary’s cultural heritage, so I always felt that my work is not just about business, but also representing our country as a “cultural ambassador”.
在我为赫伦工作的35年里，我一直都为能在这样一家企业工作而觉得自豪。赫伦并不只是一家瓷器制造商，更是匈牙利文化遗产的一部分。所以，我也一直认为，我的工作不仅仅是经营一份事业，更是代表着我们国家的“文化大使”。
Yin: We would like to know the Art Nouveau & Art Deco designs of Herend porcelain. Could you share some examples with us? Also your views about the Chinoiserie designs of Herend porcelain.
我们想了解一下赫伦的新艺术风格和装饰艺术风格的瓷器设计，您能向我们举几个例子吗？另外，对于赫伦瓷器的中国风设计，您是怎么看的呢？
Hou: In the almost 200 year history of Herend, the most dominating artistic styles were the baroque and rococo. The secession period of Art Nouveau and Art Deco were not so apparent, it was in recent years that some of our in-house designers ventured into new territory, and it was combined with the introduction of an ancient Herend design (VH) to be applied on Tableware, that was earlier painted on animal figurines only. The reception was very positive and this new pattern is already becoming successful on most of our 50 export markets, and it’s variety has been expanded to several colors.
在赫伦近200年的历史中，设计与应用最为广泛的艺术风格是巴洛克和洛可可，而新艺术和装饰艺术在瓷器设计的应用则渊源没有前两者广泛、鲜明。近年来我们的设计师们在探索新的领域，并将其与历史悠久的渔网纹（VH）设计系列相结合，首次出现在了餐瓷上，而早前这些装饰只绘画在渔网纹动物瓷偶上。这些设计收到的反馈非常好，在我们50个海外市场中的大部分市场上都很畅销，现在又增加了更多的色彩选择。

Yin: The platinum designs (Vbo-Pt、Babos and so on) of herend porcelain are very nice & beautiful. Could you share your views about them with us?
赫伦的铂金系列设计（例如VBO-Pt，Babos系列等）非常漂亮优质，可以讲讲您对这些系列的看法吗？
Hou: Platinum is a new style, new color and new material for Herend. Traditionally, all our pieces were accented by Gold (24. carat liquid gold), nevertheless, younger customers with more contemporary taste requested us to introduce platinum accenting. After experimenting with the material and mastering the technique (which is quite different from painting gold), we tried it on some of our existing traditional patterns (like Victoria and Apponyi) and also some brand new designs. Both of them turned out to be a success.
对赫伦来说，铂金系列是一种新风格、新颜色和新材质。传统上我们的瓷器都使用24K纯金来装饰，但年轻客户的审美更偏向现代化，因而促使我们推出了铂金装饰。经过材料试验并掌握了这项工艺之后（因为这项工艺与描金相当不同），我们尝试将其与现有的一些传统设计相结合（例如维多利亚系列和阿波尼系列），同时也创作了一些全新的衍生设计。所有铂金系列设计一经推出都很成功。
Yin: The Chinese fans think “Babos” make herend porcelain full of modern style. We’d like to know more about the designer of “Babos”, we can feel the woman’s power in this design.We know Zsolt József Simon and Pálma Babos are the famous ceramists in Hungary. Could you share your views and more information about Babos with us?
中国的爱好者们认为Babos系列非常有现代感，并且能够从这个设计中感受到女性力量，我们想要更多了解一下这个系列的设计者。我们知道Zsolt József Simon和Pálma Babos是匈牙利非常有名的陶艺家，您可以跟我们更深入聊聊这个系列以及其设计者吗？
Hou: Yes, the works of Pálma Babos opened a new chapter in Herend’s product development and artistic activity.

Q: The decors-“Tulip”, “Vielle Rose d’Habsbourg”(VRH), “Tupini Corne d’Abondance”(TCA), “Sevres roses”(SPROG) are full of culture and history. Could you share your views about them with us?
“郁金香”系列、“哈布斯堡玫瑰”系列、“丰饶之角”系列、“塞弗勒玫瑰”系列等都充满了历史文化元素。可以详细讲解一下这些系列吗？
Hou: Yes, these patterns are considered as the historic “backbone” of Herend, their introduction came at a time when most other European “royal” porcelain manufacturers were already in decline and Herend had the strength and ability to continue with these beautiful decors.
这些系列可以说是赫伦历史上的“支柱”，它们的问世正值欧洲大部分“皇家”瓷厂的衰退之际，而赫伦则凭借这些美丽的设计有了在陶瓷艺术领域引领潮流的能力。
Yin: The centennial history between “Victoria Garden” design (VBO) and “Royal Garden” design (EVICT) is amazing & interesting. Could you share some unknown secrets with us?
从“维多利亚花园”系列到“皇家花园”系列设计之间的百年历史，有趣又令人惊叹。这其中有什么大家不知道的秘密能分享一下吗？
Hou: The creation and introduction of our Queen Victoria (VBO) pattern and that of Royal Garden (EVICT) were separated by a century and a half. It was a lucky coincidence, that just when we were ready with the re-designing of VBO into EVICT, we heard of the new of the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate. We offered the first set of this reborn design to the young couple as a wedding present, which they accepted. The not so publicly known secret is that 3 weeks after the wedding, we received a hand written thank you letter from Prince William, remembering his mother serving him his favorite cakes on Herend plates.

Yin: Hungary culture has had a profound impact on Herend porcelain. Could you share some examples with us?
匈牙利文化对赫伦的瓷器有着深远的影响，您能举几个例子讲讲吗？
Hou: The strongest influence of Hungarian culture or even folk art – on Herend designs can be observed on our MHG (Millennium) pattern. Otherwise it was rather the 18th and 19th Century European art styles and home décor tendencies, that influenced Herend.匈牙利文化以及民间艺术最大的影响可以见于“千禧年（Motifs Hongrois Grand, MHG）”系列设计（其图案灵感来自于传统的匈牙利刺绣）；另外，在18-19世纪时欧洲的艺术风格和家居装饰潮流也影响了赫伦。
Yin: Please share with us your favorite design of Herend porcelain.
您自己最喜欢赫伦的哪个系列的瓷器呢？
Hou: My favorite, which I also use in my home is our Apponyi Green (AV) décor. I like the simple and modest, yet elegant appearance of this set, and I also have great admiration to the name-giving “godfather” of this pattern, Count Albert Apponyi – who was an outstanding figure in Hungary’s history.
我最喜欢的是绿色阿波尼（Apponyi Vert），我自己家里也在用。这个系列简洁、质朴又优雅；并且，对于给这个系列命名的“教父”阿尔伯特·阿波尼伯爵，我也非常敬仰，他在匈牙利的历史上是极其重要的一位人物。
Yin: Do you have anything you would like to say to the lovers in China?
对中国的赫伦爱好者们，您想说些什么呢？
Hou: Let me just say, that it is a great pleasure for me and a great satisfaction and sign of success, that porcelain lovers in the “birthplace” of porcelain, appreciate Herend Porcelain.
我想说，赫伦能够在瓷器的“发源地”得到瓷器爱好者们的称赞，我深感满足和荣幸，这对我来说意味着巨大的肯定与成功。
